People who entrust the management of their portfolio to a financial institution do this to get access to investments with an optimal risk-adjusted performance. Many private banks tend to only offer their own proprietary funds. That is not the case at ING Private Banking, however.

“These are the result of ING’s investment strategy and are built by combining the best funds of the best asset managers, as selected by our team of specialists,” Frédéric Degembe, Head of the Investment Office, explains.
Kronos is the ‘responsible’ solution on our sustainability ladder while Anthea is the ‘sustainable’ solution. The different options perfectly match the needs of our customers and the risk they are willing to take.
Customers can also opt for more personalised management depending on their portfolio:
Jan Van Sande explains the main differences between the two options: “In the former case, the customer delegates the responsibility for investment decisions to his Private Banker and Portfolio Manager. The latter makes decisions about what and when to buy and sell depending on the customer’s risk profile and investment objectives. With advisory management, the customer benefits from a real partnership with 100% personalised service. The customer builds and manages his own portfolio together with his Portfolio Manager.”

“We develop our strategy based on the research of our in-house Economic Office, which consists of four economists. Members include Peter Vanden Houte and Philippe Ledent, who are regularly quoted in the media,” Jan Van Sande explains.
“They analyse the macroeconomic context and the evolution of financial markets. Our specialists start from this information to define ING’s investment strategy.”
“Our investment universe allows us to build extremely robust and well-diversified portfolios that deliver a good performance. Some figures:
ING’s specialists based themselves on two types of analyses to select the best funds:
“Once we have made our choice, we perform rigorous monitoring. If the conditions change (departure of team members, change in investment process, etc.), we drop the fund from our universe.”
Ethical considerations are also taken into account.
“Our investment universe is geared towards a series of ‘responsible’ or even ‘sustainable’ funds, as opposed to traditional funds which only account for a small share of our selection,” Frédéric Degembe specifies.
In addition to this in-house work, the Investment Office works closely with Goldman Sachs Asset Management, more specifically their funds selection group.
“Thanks to this very fruitful collaboration, we get to benefit from their advice, which they also use for their wealth management and institutional customers. This is unique. I don’t know of any other banks that benefit from this type of high-value collaboration,” says the Head of the Investment Office.
