In principle, you are only entitled to unemployment benefits if you have worked a certain number of days as an employee during the period before you became unemployed. Nevertheless, under certain conditions, you can apply for support from the government as a job starter too thanks to a special benefit for recent graduates: the so-called integration benefit. This is an allowance from the RVA (the national employment service) for young people under 25 who struggle to find a job after completing their studies. The exact amount that you receive depends on your age and family situation.
What are the requirements to receive the integration benefit?
Again, the amount of your integration benefit depends on your age and family situation. You can also receive the benefit for a maximum of 36 months, although this period can be extended under certain conditions.

Therefore, you can also apply for unemployment benefits after you have been laid off if you have worked for an employer for at least a certain number of days. Exactly how many days this is, we explain further below.
For unemployment benefits, the amount that you’re entitled to depends on the wages you earned when you worked, your family situation, and your professional history. As an unemployed person, you receive 65% of your last-earned wages for the first three months, and 60% for the next 9 months. As a part-time worker, you are not entitled to unemployment benefits during your employment, but you are of course entitled to them after your part-time contract ends.
If you decided to resign yourself or by mutual agreement with your employer, you are usually not entitled to this kind of benefit. One of the conditions for being entitled to unemployment benefits is that you are involuntarily unemployed. In some cases you can prove that you left your job on your own initiative, but with a valid reason (e.g. because of a serious error on the part of your employer). In that case, the RVA sometimes decides to make an exception.
