That’s why they reward members of staff who bike to work with a tax- and social security-exempt bicycle allowance of <strong>24 eurocents for every kilometre cycled</strong>. Commuting to and from work and work-related journeys are included. Ask your employer about it.</li><li>These days you can get <a href=\"https://www.ing.be/en/individuals/borrowing/bike-loan\"><strong>attractive loans </strong></a>specifically for environmentally friendly purchases such as an e-bike. These are short term loans with low interest rates.</li></ul>"}},{"componentType":"highlight","richBody":{"value":"<p>Imagine that your total commute back and forth to work is 30 km. Your employer&apos;s bicycle allowance pays 24 eurocents per kilometre. To buy the bike, you would take out a two-year loan for an amount of 2,500 euros, with an interest rate of 2.75 % APR (<a href=\"https://www.ing.be/en/individuals/borrowing/bike-loan\">ING Bike Loan</a>). This is what the costs and benefits look like in just one year:</p><ul><li>You receive a bicycle allowance of 24 eurocents x 30 km, or 7.20 euros per day. If you cycle to work 200 days, then you’ll receive a healthy (tax-free) amount of 1,440 euros.</li><li>Your loan repayments add up to 107.14 euros per month, which comes to 1,285.86 euros per year.</li></ul><p>Your monthly repayment in this example is lower than the amount of your bicycle allowance. You will be paying 107.14 euros every month and receiving 120 euros. Within two years you will have fully earned back your investment in an environmentally friendly e-bike and repaid your loan. In fact, your savings are even greater because you will also be using the bike more often in your free time, which means you will be saving on fuel costs for the car as well. A few, practical tips:</p><ul><li>Visit your local bike shop to check for attractive discounts or credit promotions. That way you can also support your local traders, too.</li><li>Delay your purchase a bit if an attractive promotion is about to happen.</li><li>Don’t be in a big hurry to buy the newest e-bike in the shop window. The previous year’s model, with almost the same features, will cost you hundreds of euros less.</li><li>Buy a secondhand e-bike that has a battery you can replace.</li><li>Replace your (second) car.
