"We are very proud to have carbon-neutral products in our product range," says site director Axel Pirard. "When you produce polymers, people immediately think of the plastics industry. But most of our polymers are derived from sugar cane, which provides the raw material for making ethanol and then bio-based polyethylene. In addition, we only use green electricity in our factory.’

One special application is Nomacork Ocean. "This is a product made from plastics collected near or in the sea. Our suppliers collect this plastic, process it into polyethylene, and then we can reuse it," explains Pirard. "What's more, our corks are also recyclable. By setting up a waste collection system, we want to prevent them from ending up in the ocean."
